Q:Obviously, I'm an idiot. I want a red red that will compliment a dark skinned woman. Those other colors were too light. I wear a nude lip through summer that I love and a pink in Spring. I just put Azaelia Banks' "Rapunxel" for MAC which is a purple. I'd like a new red.
Not an idiot at all :] I just wanted to make sure I was recommending colors that you really wanted.
I think I understand more of what you’re looking for. Seems to me you’d like a deep red with some brownish undertones, so let’s go with that!
Hang-up - Deep berry red (cremesheen)

Chilli - Brownish orange-red (matte)

Dubbonet - Deepened claret (amplified creme)

Fresh Moroccan - Brick red with gold pearl (frost)

Dare You - Deep brown red (cremesheen)

Hopefully these are more along the lines of what you’re looking for. I tried my best to stay away from anything that was too burgundy :]
Let me know if these work!

Q:If I was going to get a few special items of make-up/beauty products (not basics) for my birthday, what would you recommend? (sorry it's a bit vague!)
I can’t really recommend any actual products because I don’t know anything about your skin type or what type of products you’re looking for :]
But here are a few things I’d want if it were my bday:
- I’d definitely splurge on a foundation you’ve been wanting to try.
- Get a lipstick in a color you wouldn’t normally get, but have always wanted to try on yourself.
- Same goes for eye shadow, try a color you’ve had your eye after but haven’t had the courage to get.
- False lashes, they are always something fun to wear on special occasions.
- Get a few new brushes. Real Techniques brushes are great and buying them won’t break the bank.
Hopefully this answers yours question. If you want something more specific, give me a few more details :]

Q:Looking for a beautiful red lip for autumn for a dark skinned black woman. No oranges or burgundies -- a warm red even if it pushes into something more plum but red without being obnoxious. Prefer MACand UD products.
Hmmm, I’m not quite sure what color you’re really looking for. Warm reds are definitely going to have some orange undertones…and a warm red isn’t really going to lean towards plum. You say you want plum, but plum leans more towards burgundy…which you say you don’t want :]
I’m going to suggest a few plums and reds from MAC, and you can let me know if I’m on the right track.
Since you said you didn’t want any “obnoxious” reds…I’m going to stay away from reds with bluish undertones, those are going to be your true vibrant reds.
Let try these:
Capricious - Fanciful rose plum (lustre)

So Chaud - Intense reddish orange (matte)

Lady Danger - Vivid bright coral-red (matte)

Cockney - Sheer yellow red with multidimensional pearl (lustre)

Let me know if those were what you were thinking of.

Makeup Question Answered.
makeupforall1 answered: whats the best drugstore waterpoof volumizing mascara that can hold a curl?
Well, this is going to be based off my opinion, so I can’t say this is the best one, but it’s the one I like the best for voluminous lashes.
Maybelline Volum’ Express® The Colossal Waterproof Mascara

This foundation does great things when it comes to volume. I also think the brush is great because it really allows you to coat each lash to get maximum results.
Just another thing to note, if you really want to add more curl to your lashes and mascara alone isn’t giving you the curl you want, try using an eye lash curler before you apply your mascara.
Makeup Question Answered.
thedarebear answered: do you have any of the coastal scents palettes? I’m looking for a matte neutral palette…how does CS compare to higher end brands?
Yes, I do have a Coastal Scents palette. I have their 28 Neutral Palette and the Creative Me #1 Palette.
In my opinion, Coastal Scents is a great brand. What’s important for me is a shadows color payoff. Coastal Scent shadows have a pretty good color payoff. Not every shadow is going to give you the most bang for you buck, but it might not be meant to be an intense color, but more of a wash, so you have to keep that in mind as well.
I don’t think you have to splurge on super high end brand eye shadows all the time. There are plenty of high end shadows that I’ve been disappointed with because the pigmentation of the shadow was so poor.
Also remember, if you use an eye shadow primer, you’ll get better staying power out of all of your eye shadows, whether they are high end or drugstore.
Q:Any good matte lipsticks that follow the mulberry trend? I'm tempted to try it out. I am neutral toned with yellow undertones, if that makes any sense :)
I talk about some deep red/wine/mulberry lipsticks in this post. I’m not quite sure what skin tone you’re describing, but I have a few options for fair, medium, olive, and deep skin tones.
What I’d suggest is just find a mulberry shade you like, and then “mattify” it yourself.
Follow these steps:
1. Blot your lips with a tissue after you’ve applied a non-matte lipstick.
2. Once you have the tissue over your lips, dust some translucent powder over the tissue while it’s pressed against your lips.
This will apply the powder to your lips without making your lips look overly powdery.
3. Repeat as necessary to get the desired look.
Hope this helps!

Q:Do you do tutorials? Would love to learn how to get a twisted updo.
I cut my hair about a month ago, so it’s pretty short at the moment. I do do twists in the front of my hair to hold my bangs back.
Here are a few tutorials you can check out that show you some quick and easy twisted updos:
Tutorial 3 (This one is my fav. It looks like it’d be complicated to do, but it’s so simple and the finished look is so pretty)
I hope this helps!

Q:Hello there! Love your blog! Question: I'm Spanish so I have tan skin and dark brown hair, what type of makeup would go with a all white outfit? Thanks for any help :)
I really think a subtle cat eye and a bright, bold lip would look fantastic with an all white outfit.
Something like this:
You could also try a “golden goddess” look. I think that would look really pretty with your skin since you have a darker complexion. So a nice golden/bronze smokey eye, bronze lips, and golden bronzer.
Something like this:
I really like blue eye makeup on dark eyes. So you could try a blue smokey eye and a nude lip.
Something like this:
I hope this helps!

Q:Hello! I was reading your post about deep lips and I am unsure of whether if I have medium or olive skin tone. How can I know?
When I think of someone with a medium skin tone, your skin is not extremely fair, but your skin is not deep/dark either. You’d tend to have pinkish undertones…but that is not always the case. I’m thinking a skintone like this:
Olive skin, has yellow or greenish undertones and your skin looks…well more olive. People with olive skin tend to have darker skin than those with a medium skin tone. Think about the complexion of hispanic or italian skin:
Hopefully this helps! If you need help determining your skins undertones…check out this post.
