Q:how do you contour your face & what is a good product to contour with for deeper skin tones? every time i go to sephora or mac they give me contouring things used on fairer skin tones, it doesnt even show up on my face!
Here is a post I did on contouring and highlighting. In this post I talk about the areas of your face that you can contour. I also show a few products that you can use to contour with. Each product I suggested should work with some deeper skin tones.
If your skin tone is like NW55+ (think like singer Estelle),
it may be a bit more difficult to find colors that will work, but it definitely isn’t impossible. You might just have to be more crafty, because unfortunately a lot of contour powders/creams just don’t have very dark color options.
One trick you can try is adding a black pigment to your foundation to get a custom color that will work for you. But you can also try different eye shadows. MAC has some dark eye shadows that would work great as highlights for deeper skin tones:

With eye shadows you just want to make sure they have as little shimmer as possible, matte is going to be the best. Also they don’t have to be MAC eye shadows, just want to give you an idea of colors and you’ll be able to find similar colors with any makeup line/company.
When I contour I always blend like crazy and use less product then I think I’ll need. By taking very little product and then really blending it out, I can add more product if it’s needed. It’s easy to add, but hard to fix when you’ve applied to much.
Hope this helps.
